Agreement

By using Aside (the "Service") you agree to these Terms. The Service is operated by Jasmine Wright ("we," "us"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

What the Service does

Aside is a private, voice-first journal. You speak or type entries, optionally attach photos and tags, and Aside stores all of it locally on your device. If you turn on Reflections, the text of your entries is sent to a third-party AI service to generate a short written reflection — that's the only data that ever leaves your device, and only when you've enabled that feature.

Your account

There isn't one. Aside has no sign-in and no account system — nothing to register, secure, or lose access to. That also means we have no way to identify you, recover anything on your behalf, or restore your journal if your device is lost, since we never had a copy of it to begin with.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the voice or Reflections features to spam, abuse, or overload our AI provider.
• Reverse-engineer, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the app or the services it relies on.
• Use the Service for anything illegal where you live.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for violating these terms.

Your content

You own everything you put into Aside. We do not claim any ownership over your journal entries, photos, or tags. When Reflections is enabled, you grant us a limited license to transmit your entry text — never photos or tags — to our AI provider solely so the Service can generate that reflection. We do not use your content to train AI models or for any purpose beyond running the Service.

Service availability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee uptime for features that require a connection (Reflections, transcription on some devices) or that every feature will work perfectly all the time. We'll do our best to give notice of major changes.

Backups

We don't back up your journal, because we never have a copy of it — it lives only on your device. You are responsible for keeping your own backup of anything you can't afford to lose. Use the in-app "Export Journal" feature (Settings → Data → Export Journal) to download your entries and photos any time.

Costs

Aside has no free tier: a 7-day trial starts at first launch, handled entirely at the app level with no payment info required. After the trial, an Aside Plus subscription (monthly or annual, priced in the app) is required to create new entries or generate new reflections — everything already written stays fully visible and editable regardless.

Subscriptions are sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system, auto-renew until cancelled in your iPhone Settings (Apple ID > Subscriptions), and are billed to your Apple ID. We never receive or store your payment information. Refunds are handled by Apple per Apple's refund policy. If we change subscription pricing, Apple requires your explicit consent before any new price applies to you as an existing subscriber.

Third-party services

We use third-party providers to deliver the Service: Anthropic (generating reflections, only when enabled), Apple (transcription, subscriptions, and distribution via the App Store), and Formspree (relaying messages if you contact Support). They have their own terms; by using Aside you acknowledge that data processed by these providers is governed by their respective agreements. Termination

You can stop using the Service at any time by deleting the app — since there's no account, that removes everything Aside has stored. We can suspend or terminate a subscription if these terms are violated or if continuing to operate the Service becomes commercially or legally impractical.

Disclaimer

Reflections are generated text meant to gently surface patterns in your own words. They are not professional, medical, or mental health advice, and Aside is not a substitute for speaking with a qualified professional.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of data. Total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months.

Changes to these terms

We will post updates to this page and adjust the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be surfaced in-app. Continuing to use Aside after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
